Overview

Tundra Tykes is a new 9425 sq. ft. state-of-the-art child care center designed to GSA Child Care Design Guide and National Association for the Education of Young Children standards for quality care. The daycare is within walking distance to the Federal building and centrally located in downtown district.

The building features more classrooms, which allow for smaller group sizes for Infants and Toddlers. This increased capacity allows Tundra Tykes to meet the needs of more Federal families.

The interior creates a more home-like care environment with ample daylight and views to the community. There is a multi-purpose room for events and play with cushioned flooring for large motor activities. The staff break/work room features expansive work space and lockers for personal items.

The classrooms are organized and feature increased storage in each classrooms. Additionally there are stages for creative play in each room. Windows between classrooms allow for group connectivity and improved supervision.

The building features improved security and accessibility. There is a parent conference and resource room, and safety electrical outlets mounted “out-of reach.”

Environmental considerations at Tundra Tykes include: low VOC finishes, water—saving motion sensor faucets, a variety of quality indirect lighting, cabinetry from renewable sources, and natural material floor coverings. Exterior envelope and playground materials include recycled post-consumer plastic and recycled post-production or recovered wood fibers.
